2003 Proprietor's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – Empire Winery & Distillery – New Port Richey, FL

$14.99

This wine I am definitely not entirely sure what to make of it. When I opened the bottle I was a bit worried at first as I got a strong metallic like smell from the bottle. This was pretty overpowering and made so that I was not able to discern any noticeable pleasing aromas from the wine which saddened me quite a bit as the aroma is usually one of my favourite parts. As for the taste, that metallic smell carried over but thankfully not too strongly and I was able to pick up a slight taste of what I believed to be Black Currant. Normally I would avoid this wine after a strange taste or smell, but this metallic taste can be caused by the grapes being stored in a poorly tinned container. So this could be a one off thing, and hopefully the next bottle goes better. But for the sake of sticking with my usual review method, I did have some nice herb and lemon baked potato wedges with some rice and assorted vegetables (this made the wine at least bearable). And finally if you are a fan of Cabernet Sauvignon I would say to still give it a try as this may have been a one off thing with a single batch, especially since I have heard good things about this wine from others.

If you would like to purchase this wine you currently need to look in stores (sorry), a list can be found here.
