2008 Chardonnay – Wycombe Vineyards – Furlong, PA

Pennsylvania is usually a pretty reliable state for getting a good bottle of wine, which is why I was a bit disappointed with this chardonnay. Now don't get me wrong it wasn't bad, it just wasn't something to write home about (though writing on the Internet about it is perfectly acceptable). The main redeeming quality for this wine is thankfully its aroma, I do always love a good aroma. When you open up a bottle of this you are pretty quickly hit with a really lovely smell of Oak, followed by some nice light fruits. You also get just a tad bit of vanilla to it all as well, which I think brings it all together nicely. Once you move onto the taste though things go a bit down hill a bit. Those soft fruit notes return as does the vanilla, but you also get an odd oat flavour. This is where thins went south for me, as a chardonnay really shouldn't have an off oat taste like that in my mind. Now I did have this with some lovely chicken and asparagus which did seem to help out my overall view of this wine. As for other foods I would say it may work with pork or even some hard cheeses. So to sum it all up, I'd say this wine was okay and if you don't mind oats maybe it would be right up your alley. For me though it was strange, so I don't know if I would buy this again. Then again at $16 who knows, maybe I'll give it another go in the future.
