Pink Magnolia Rosé – Duplin Winery – Rose Hill, NC

$7.49

Ah Duplin Winery, I am always intrigued by the wines they produce as they are the largest producer of Muscadine wines around as well as one of the big wine producers here on the East Coast. This Pink Magnolia Rosé is made from an interesting combination of Magnolia and Noble Muscadine grapes which should put it at the sweeter end of the Rosé scale. Once you open the bottle you don’t really notice a whole lot at first, but after you swirl the glass a bit more you start to get some light fruit aromas. You also get a faint herb character to the smell as well as a very slight hint of musk (though not bad musk). After you are down with the aroma and move to the taste you start to get some slightly more prominent fruit flavours to this wine. The most obvious of which is definitely apple, a bit tangy but nice, as well as an interesting after taste of wild grapes. As for food, I had this with some nice spicy trout I cooked up and it went quite well. I believe it would also go well with a quesadillas or even a ham sandwich. This is a fairly sweet Rosé so if you are a fan of those, or of Blush wines and White Zinfandel, then you’d probably enjoy this Magnolia. So go on and order yourself some, and for under $10 what have you got to lose?
