Just Southwest of Charlottesville, VA you will find quite a selection of wineries, vineyards and even breweries to occupy your time. This grand diversity can sometimes get a bit overwhelming if you only have so much time in the area when visiting, so what are you do to? Well thankfully we here at ECoast Wines are here to help by sharing with you one of our favourite outings into this area. This particular trip into the Afton area is a short but sweet winery trip that really should only take about a half a day, and that’s if you’re taking your time. So what is it that you will be doing on this lovely outing near the Blue Ridge Mountains?

This lovely family owned winery is a great first stop in the morning to have a few sips of wine. The winery focuses on some lovely Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon wines though they also have a delicious selection of other varietals. The tasting room itself is situated on top of a hill offering some lovely views of both the mountains as well as a small lake down the slope of the hill. You will also find some lovely creature comforts with some comfy chairs around a nice fireplace (great for those chilly mornings). This winery is certainly a must see in the area. |

Another Family owned venture, this winery has a lot to offer both the novice as well as seasoned wino (or connoisseur, which ever you prefer). This particular vineyard has a strong focus on the more traditional style of wine making with an emphasis on using old world vitis vinifera vines for their wine making. The Tasting room is surrounded by an idyllic vineyard some lovely mountain views. And inside you will find once again some comfortable seating as well as a stone fireplace just as you did at Afton. |

Cardinal Point Winery |

The last winery on this particular excursion is yet another wonderful family owned winery in the area. This winery seems to have a strong focus on Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varietals of wine while also producing some lovely blends. As with the other wineries on this outing, you will find yourself enjoying some wonderful views at this stop as well as a cozy tasting room with a friendly staff. The combination of which makes this a great end point for a day of wine tasting, or perhaps a resting point for your own additions to this outing. |

Now with a day of wine tasting you are going to need some good food, and if you don’t feel like packing a nice picnic then there is no better place to find a meal nearby these vineyards then at Blue Mountain Brewery (Check out their Site Here). They have an amazing, and diverse, selection of foods and beers (of course) as well as plenty of seating with their recent addition to the building. This is a great place to stop either on your way back to Charlottesville/the interstate or after Veritas for a little refueling (though it is a little out of the way of cardinal point in this case).
